Anger management and Controlling the Nafs

Mufti Sahab, I am dealing with a spiritual problem.

My Nafs gets angry, impatient, and arrogant when I want to do something good. I’ve allowed my Nafs to overpower me before, by engaging in different sins. This is why I feel overcome by it.

Sometimes, I fear that my heart might act upon what my Nafs command. It is a very overpowering feeling of arrogance and anger. While reading The Quran, I feel this arrogance and I feel it upon my face.

How can I get my Nafs under control so that it doesn’t overpower me? And, do these feelings from the Nafs constitute Kufr?

Dars-e-Hadith | Bukhari Shareef | Kitaabul Buyoo 20 | Hadith 2225-2234

Narrated Sa`id bin Abu Al-Hasan: While I was with Ibn `Abbas a man came and said, “O father of `Abbas! My sustenance is from my manual profession and I make these pictures.” Ibn `Abbas said, “I will tell you only what I heard from Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) . I heard him saying, ‘Whoever makes a picture will be punished by Allah till he puts life in it, and he will never be able to put life in it.’ ” Hearing this, that man heaved a sigh and his face turned pale. Ibn `Abbas said to him, “What a pity! If you insist on making pictures I advise you to make pictures of trees and any other unanimated objects.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari 2225]

Lost trust in Allah

Mufti Sahib I am not happy with my life. Ever since I stepped into this country school kids have been bullying me like hell because of my name. They would make swear words out of my name I ended up needing mental help. On top my family does not support me. Plus I cannot work due to mental illness. On top of that I am suffering from chronic illnesses. I have lost trust in Allah I belief in him but I think when it comes to my life people have been very selfish and as a result I have lost trust in Allah.

My parents were careless when I was little as they and rest of my adults were addicted to Bollywood and most of my life is been sinful. As a child I have never experienced happiness. I am a grown-up man but lost in this world I hate my life and anything to do with religion. Please make Dua for me.

Repeating a sin with the intention of making Taubah later

What happens when a person commits a severe sin and makes Taubah …  but then repeats the sin again …  with the thought of doing Taubah again?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, it is mandatory for a person to make Taubah after committing any type of sin major or minor.1 However, if a person has committed a severe sin (Gunnah-e-Kabeerah), then the following three conditions should be adhered for the validity of ones Taubah:2

1)    He must refrain from committing the sin.

2)    He must express remorse over committing the sin.

3)    He must make a firm resolution never to return to that sin again.

Thus, if he commits the sin again he will get a sin and will have to make sincere Taubah.

One should not commit a sin with the intention of doing Taubah later. He may not get the Taufeeq to do Taubah again and be entrapped in the evil of sin for a long time. Allah forbid.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best

Political mistakes could lead to serious implications

Thursday Majlis | Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb

Mufti Saheb presented the incident of a Sahabi, Haatib Radiallahu Anhu who committed a serious mistake of attempting to divulge the secret of Rasullullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam to launch an attack on the non Muslims in Makkah that lead to the conquest of Makkah Mukarrama. This had serious political implications.

Mufti Saheb mentioned: “Look to Sunnah of Rasullullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam.”

1) He sought clarity directly from Hatib Radiallahu Anhu and accepted his excuse. On this Mufti Saheb expounded on avoiding information from indirect sources. That is misleading and causes undue confusion in the community.

2) When Umar Radiallahu Anhu was overwhelmed with what Hatib RadiallahuAnhu did, he asked permission to behead Hatib Radiallahu Anhu. Rasullullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam controlled Umar Radiallahu Anhu and reminded him that Hatib is a Badri Sahabi.

On this Mufti Saheb said, dont forget the sacrifices of our elders of Dawat and Tabligh, the sacrifices of the Ulama for Deen because of some errors made by them. Dont write them off. Also focus on the good people have done.

What if people start digging into our faults? What will become of us? Who is free of shortcomings?

We need the intervention of some senior people to contain the emotions of people. Seniors do not get overwhelmed by the emotions of juniors and do not simply use the seniority card to guide people.
