Almighty Allah refers to the three missions of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam in the following verse of the Quran:

???? ??????? ?????? ??? ?????????????? ???????? ????????? ??????? ?????????? ???????? ?????????????? ??????????????? ?????????? ?????????????

“It is He who has raised among the illiterate (Arabs), a Messenger from themselves, to recite to them His verses, to purify them, and to teach them the Book and the Wisdom.”[62:2]

Whilst every mission of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is important and compliment each other, the mission of Tazkiyah [purification of the soul] is central to the other missions of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. The recitation of the verses of the Quran [tableegh] and education [taleem] will be effective only if they are combined with Tazkiyah.

Tazkiyah refers to cleansing the soul from Kufr, Shirk and evil qualities. The Quran and Ahadith are complete with emphasis on Tazkiyah of the soul.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam taught us the following dua:

?????????? ??? ??????? ?????????? ?????????? ?????? ?????? ???? ????????? ?????? ?????????? ?? ??????????

“O Allah, grant my soul its piety and purify it, You are the Best to purify it, You are its Guardian and Master.” [Sahih Muslim: 2722]

It is the wish and desire of everyone to be peaceful and happy. To achieve that peace and happiness, we adopt various materialistic means of peace and happiness. Despite all the various means we adopt, we still we do not experience peace and happiness within ourselves. We are in a state of continuous anxiety and grief. The reason is Allah is Salam [peace] and peace comes only from Allah Taala. When we make peace with Allah through Tazkiya [purifying souls], Allah will grant us peace.

Allah refers to three stages of life in the Quran.

??????? ??????? ????????? ???? ?????? ????? ?????? ??? ?????? ?????? ??????? ????? ?????? ??? ?????? ??????? ??????? ?????????? ? ???????? ??? ??????? ? ?????? ?????????? ??????????

Allah is He Who shaped you out of weakness, then appointed after weakness strength, then, after strength, appointed weakness and grey hair. He creates what He will. He is the Knower, the Mighty. [30: 54]

Likewise, Allah refers to three stages of Nafs in the Quran:

1. The first type of nafs is Nafs-ul-Ammarah. Allah says:

????? ????????? ???????????? ??????????

“Indeed the nafs that overwhelmingly commands a person to do sin.” [12:53]

2. The second type of nafs is Nafs-ul-Lawwamah. Allah says:

????? ???????? ??????????? ?????????????

“And I swear by the reproaching soul” [75:2]

3. The third type of nafs is Nafs-ul-Mutmainnah. Allah says:

??? ?????????? ????????? ???????????????? ???????? ????? ??????? ????????? ???????????

“To the righteous it will be said “oh peaceful soul, return to your Lord well pleased, and pleasing to Him” [89:27-28]

The cycle of the life carries on. We don’t believe in stagnancy in time. Likewise, we should not be stagnant in Nafs Ammarah. We should bring the courage and work on purifying our Nafs Ammarah by reproaching ourselves [Lawwamah] until we reach to the stage of Nafs-ul-Mutmainnah. At this point we will experience peace and happiness within ourselves in all facets of our lives. Now spouses will look and treat each other differently, parents and children will respect each other and living in such a society will be bliss from the blessings of Allah.

All Praise is due to Allah for the establishment of the Darul Mahmood website to assist us in our Tazkiyah and spiritual journey to connect to Allah. Mahmood means the praised one. May Allah grant us the ability to reform ourselves and make Hamd [praise] of Allah and become Mahmood in the sight of Allah. May Allah make us the bearers of the following verse:

??? ?????????? ????????? ???????????????? ???????? ????? ??????? ????????? ???????????

To the righteous it will be said “oh peaceful soul, return to your Lord well pleased, and pleasing to Him” [89:27-28]
