Narrated Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) Allah’s Messenger (?) and Abu Bakr hired a man from the tribe of Bani-Ad-Dil as an expert guide who was a pagan (follower of the religion of the pagans of Quraish). The Prophet (?) and Abu Bakr gave him their two riding camels and took a promise from him to bring their riding camels in the morning of the third day to the Cave of Thaur.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Allah’s Messenger (?) came to Medina and the people used to pay in advance the price of fruits to be delivered within one or two years. (The sub-narrator is in doubt whether it was one to two years or two to three years.) The Prophet (?) said, “Whoever pays money in advance for dates (to be delivered later) should pay it for known specified weight and measure (of the dates).

Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet (?) came to Khaibar and when Allah made him victorious and he conquered the town by breaking the enemy’s defense, the beauty of Safiya bint Huyai bin Akhtab was mentioned to him and her husband had been killed while she was a bride. Allah’s Messenger (?) selected her for himself and he set out in her company till he reached Sadd-ar-Rawha’ where her menses were over and he married her. Then Hais (a kind of meal) was prepared and served on a small leather sheet (used for serving meals). Allah’s Messenger (?) then said to me, “Inform those who are around you (about the wedding banquet).” So that was the marriage banquet given by Allah’s Messenger (?) for (his marriage with) Safiya. After that we proceeded to Medina and I saw that Allah’s Messenger (?) was covering her with a cloak while she was behind him. Then he would sit beside his camel and let Safiya put her feet on his knees to ride (the camel).

Question:

Mufti Sahab, I am dealing with a spiritual problem.

My Nafs gets angry, impatient, and arrogant when I want to do something good. I’ve allowed my Nafs to overpower me before, by engaging in different sins. This is why I feel overcome by it.

Sometimes, I fear that my heart might act upon what my Nafs command. It is a very overpowering feeling of arrogance and anger. While reading The Quran, I feel this arrogance and I feel it upon my face.

How can I get my Nafs under control so that it doesn’t overpower me? And, do these feelings from the Nafs constitute Kufr?

Narrated Sa`id bin Abu Al-Hasan: While I was with Ibn `Abbas a man came and said, “O father of `Abbas! My sustenance is from my manual profession and I make these pictures.” Ibn `Abbas said, “I will tell you only what I heard from Allah’s Messenger (?) . I heard him saying, ‘Whoever makes a picture will be punished by Allah till he puts life in it, and he will never be able to put life in it.’ ” Hearing this, that man heaved a sigh and his face turned pale. Ibn `Abbas said to him, “What a pity! If you insist on making pictures I advise you to make pictures of trees and any other unanimated objects.”

Question:

Mufti Sahib I am not happy with my life. Ever since I stepped into this country school kids have been bullying me like hell because of my name. They would make swear words out of my name I ended up needing mental help. On top my family does not support me. Plus I cannot work due to mental illness. On top of that I am suffering from chronic illnesses. I have lost trust in Allah I belief in him but I think when it comes to my life people have been very selfish and as a result I have lost trust in Allah.

My parents were careless when I was little as they and rest of my adults were addicted to Bollywood and most of my life is been sinful. As a child I have never experienced happiness. I am a grown-up man but lost in this world I hate my life and anything to do with religion. Please make Dua for me.

Narrated `Abdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakr: We were with the Prophet (?) when a tall pagan with long matted unkempt hair came driving his sheep. The Prophet (?) asked him, “Are those sheep for sale or for gifts?” The pagan replied, “They are for sale.” The Prophet (?) bought one sheep from him.
